12th pass homemaker wins 5 crore

    Kaun Banega Crorepati has got its first jackpot winner of the season. Sunmeet Kaur Sawhney, a housewife from Mumbai, has become the first woman ever to win 5 crore on the show.
    For the 37-year-old mother of two, who gives tuitions to add to her family income, knowledge was the key to success. To participate in the show, she prepared by reading extensively on the internet. Ironically, Sunmeet stopped studies after completing higher secondary education. Along with the support of her husband and daughters, her sheer determination and thirst for knowledge helped her crack the jackpot. Sunmeet says she couldn’t believe that she had won till the show’s host, Amitabh Bachchan, hugged her. Elated at her victory, Big B said, “I’m very happy that a woman has won 5 crore. Never did she look tense or perplexed during any of the questions.”
    Sunmeet is married to Manmeet Singh, an actor by profession. Sunmeet says she considered ‘Bachchan sir’ to be lucky for her. She hopes to become an inspiration for thousands of women in India and advises them to be mentally and physically strong.
