the day of Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej

An auspicious day

They say, ‘All that glitters is gold.’ This stands right, especially on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, an auspicious day for both Hindus and Jains. Some claim that the day has lost its relevance by becoming nothing but a gimmick for jewellers, as this day is believed to reap financial gains. But mythology states it is the birthday of Lord Parasurama (one of the many incarnations of Lord Vishnu.) This is also the day when Ganesha started writing the epic Mahabharata as dictated by Ved Vyas. Thus,
people celebrate by worshipping Lord Ganesha and the Goddess Lakshmi. Myth has it that on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, valuables bought are bound to garner success and prosperity. Gold, the most bought article on this day, signifies the same. It is also a great time to delve into new ventures and plan journeys.
From an economical point of view, the day boosts sales for marketeers who own businesses that sell products associated with the festival. One may find women among others rushing to buy gold and silver jewellery, or gold coins to mark the opportune time of the celebrations.
