Vishal Bhardwaj does not accept Censor Board’s ‘A’ certificate for Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola
Matru
Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is set in Haryana. In
the film, Pankaj Kapur’s character, Mandola has a takia kalam, ‘Paincho
Paincho’, which he mumbles to himself in the film. It isn’t an abusive
word. Besides, it’s meant to be hilarious and not offensive. The Censor
Board’s regional officer has given the film an ‘A’ rating, which Vishal
has not accepted and will be going to the Revising Committee on December
17. Urges Vishal, “Don’t kill the flavour of the region for one word
that sounds like a gaali as it is not an adult film. I will request the
Censor Board to have a look at the film again. The phrase isn’t
offending at all... in fact, it’s amusing. Society has to come out of
this hypocrisy.” He further reveals, “I have not accepted the ‘A’ rating
by the regional officer and I’m taking it to the Revising Committee. I
would request the Board to look at
the intention. ‘Paincho Paincho’ is actually quite musical. There is an
extremely popular family restaurant in Bandra called Papa Pancho.
Society has accepted that, then why not in the film?”
In
the story ‘I don’t understand the national obsession with Aaradhya’ in
Bombay Times issue dated December 12, it was erroneously mentioned that
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was in Gujarat to campaign for the BJP. The
actress was there for a store launch. The error is regretted.
