A literary launch
Last
week saw the launch of Captain Vinod Shankar Nair’s book Pride of Lions
where Bollywood stars Vivek Oberoi and Tulip Joshi, and Additional
Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Brijesh Singh read from the book. Also
attending the event were Rouble Nagi, Kiran Bawa, Alex O’Neil, Shama
Sikander, Tulip Joshi, Yasmin Morani, Sandhya Shetty, Parveen Dabbas,
Rahul Roy, Dalip Tahil, veteran actor Ranjeet and several other celebs.
The
book is a taut thriller, gritty and extremely fast-paced. While it has a
lot of action, it also addresses deeper issues facing the youth of
India currently. The story starts with students in a classroom
questioning the basis of pride in their country, given today’s scenario of corruption and inefficiency.
Vivek
Oberoi and Tulip Joshi captivated the audience when they read excerpts
from the book. The question-and-answer session with the author revealed
fascinating insights into his motivational power and irrepressible
intelligence. He has an IQ of 163 (a score achieved by 0.03% per
million). Some members of the audience seemed convinced that the book is
a true story based on Captain Vinod’s own real-life combat experiences
but when quizzed, he insisted that the book is a work of fiction and not
related to his life at all.
Some critics, who had previewed the book, described it as an instant best-seller and Nair as India’s Fredrick Forsyth.
