Sunny Deol will play a Sikh again in Singh Saab The Great, after last being seen in a turbaned avatar in Yamla Pagla Deewana. The turban and beard add to his characteristic personality, feels the actor.Singh Saab director Anil Sharma and Deol’s last film together was Apne (2007). Deol admits, “It’s been a while”, adding, “I play an honest, principled collector who believes in standing his ground no matter what. The Sikh look is in sync with the character.”
He says it’s a character he hasn’t played before. The actor who is otherwise often seen in action roles will showcase his light-hearted side as well in this film. Challenging Deol’s collector will be Prakash Raj’s character. Raj, who’s excited about his action scenes with the beefy actor muses, “Our tussle will be dramatic.”
A mahurat has been planned in Bhopal tomorrow for the film, written by Shaktimaan. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will sound the clap, while Anil cans the first shot. “Call it destiny or luck but my film starts on 12.12.12, a day that comes once in a century,” smiles Sharma, who has planned a 50-day schedule in Bhopal, Indore and Maheshwar. “We are putting up a huge set in Peoples World in Bhopal and the Lalbaug Palace in Indore,” he informs.
Sharma adds, “Singh Saab... is my 15th film but feels like my first. In fact, it brings back memories of my first film, Shraddhanjali. It was only when I completed shooting that film, did it actually sink in that I finally was a director. With Singh Saab..., I am experiencing the same feeling all over again.”
Singh Saab The Great is produced by Anuj Sharma, Shantketan Entertainment and Jeetu Jain from Alumbra Entertainment and Media Pvt Ltd.
