KANGANA RANAUT TO PLAY A NAUTCH GIRL
Actress
Kangana Ranaut has been roped in for author and historian Vishwas
Patil’s directorial venture, Rajjo, where she plays a nautch girl. The
director, who has been honoured with the Sahitya Akademi National Award,
Priyadarshini National Award and Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad Award, will
portray the changing scenario of Mumbai in his film.
Patil, who
was looking for a good performer with a regal appeal, says, “There is no
doubt that Kangana is a talent to reckon with. However, what appealed
to me more was that she has a strong Indianness to her that hasn’t been
explored enough. The film looks into the issue of the mujra houses that
are dying a slow death.”
On playing a character different from
what she has done till date, Kangana says, “When I heard the script, I
immediately knew that I wanted to be part of it. People will identify
with Rajjo’s character and empathise with her struggle.” The film also
stars Mahesh Manjrekar in the role of a eunuch and Prakash Raj as a
politician.
Rajjo, produced by Four Pillars Entertainment, is scheduled for release in 2013.
